Return to Our School

Headteacher’s Welcome

I have the pleasure of taking on the role of Interim Headteacher from the Summer Term 2021.  Following Mr Bowen’s highly successful Headship, I will work hard to maintain the high standards, as well as leading the school forward on to its next stage of development.

I am currently in my third year at Maple Primary School.   Through my career to date, I have taught English in Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 in addition to teaching across all the primary year groups, in two other primary schools in St Albans, leading several different curriculum areas including English and Maths.

I believe that Maple Primary School is a fantastic place where children are able to flourish and achieve to their potential within a kind, caring and supportive environment.  We promote an inclusive environment where we recognise and value equality and diversity.

At Maple Primary School, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum, focusing equally on academic achievement, mental and physical wellbeing.  We want our pupils to feel safe, secure and happy, to have wonderful experiences and to achieve to the best of their ability. We encourage children at Maple to be individuals whilst being an integral part of their class.  We enjoy watching individual personalities blossom as they develop self-confidence, self-esteem and the ability to become part of a team.

I am honoured to lead a committed, enthusiastic and hardworking staff which, I believe, is one of the main reasons for the ongoing success of the school.

Undoubtedly, at Maple, we are proud of our Year 6 SATs results for our oldest pupils, but Maple is more than just preparing children for statutory testing.  We are acutely aware of the value of learning beyond the classroom and I am committed to building on the children’s cultural capital.  When COVID restrictions are lifted, we will once again be organising external visits, class trips and, of course, the highly anticipated residential journeys in Years 5 and 6.

Maple has a strong music tradition which I wholeheartedly support.  We offer music lessons including guitar, violin, cello and recorders as well as – again, once restrictions are lifted – encouraging singing in a choir and musical ensembles.

Prior to COVID restrictions, we were able to offer a wealth of extra-curricular activities and, again, as soon as we are able, we will look to offer a choice of traditional sports, cheerleading, street dancing, fencing, gymnastics, chess and magic club to name just some of the activities that we host.

Maple has always encouraged parent helpers in school for a variety of tasks, including reading and support with special activities, and once the current pandemic restrictions are lifted, I very much hope to do so again.  A positive relationship with parents is key to supporting a child to reach his or her potential. In addition, we have a very active Parent Teacher Association promoting a real sense of community as well as encouraging fund raising to provide additional resources for the children.  An example of this is our wonderful new playground trail and climbing apparatus.

I hope that you enjoy visiting the website to get a flavour of Maple Primary School.  I am very much looking forward to working with the whole school community to continue to build an exciting future for the children.
