I am the Headteacher of Maple Primary School. I joined the school in January 2001.
I consider it to be a great privilege to be the Headteacher of such a busy, vibrant and successful school. Every member of my team is committed to creating a happy, stimulating and safe learning environment for our children.
Over the past few years we have significantly increased the number and variety of lunchtime and after-school clubs available to the pupils; we have improved the quality of our PE curricular provision. With significant financial support from the PTA, we have a) installed an all-weather running track around the perimeter of the field so that all the pupils can take part in daily running exercise, with the oldest pupils running up to a mile a day; and b) installed outdoor gym equipment for the pupils to use, both at playtimes and during their PE lessons.
Over the last few years, our school has received a successful re-accreditation for both the ICT Mark and the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award – two prestigious curriculum awards.
Another recent external re-accreditation was the School Games Award Silver Mark in September 2018 – in recognition of the significant improvements that have taken place to both our curricular and extra-curricular physical education provision over the last three years.
In addition to Computing, Sustainability and Physical Education, the school has a really strong Musical ethos and tradition. The Infants Christmas and Upper Juniors end of Summer Term musical productions are of a very high standard; and may children learn to play a variety of musical instruments. Each Spring Term the Junior Choir sings as part of a massed choir at a Young Voices Concert at the O2 Arena; and in March 2020 the children once again had the opportunity to perform at a Hertfordshire Schools’ Gala Concert at The Royal Albert Hall, which was a very special occasion.
In 2019 we were delighted to have another very successful year in the Year 6 SATS tests, both in terms of the high numbers of pupils meeting the Expected Standard in all subjects, as well as the very high scores attained by our most-able pupils.
I am very proud of the teaching skills, commitment and enthusiasm of my staff, along with the hard work and positive attitudes of our pupils, which has resulted in our Ofsted Outstanding status and our on-going academic and curricular success. We continue to look forward to both maintaining the current high standards in all areas, and developing and improving the school still further in the months and years ahead.
‘Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2020 has been a really challenging year for members of the Maple community; and those pupils who are currently unable to attend school, along with their families, are very much in our thoughts. We are planning for and looking forward to the day when we can welcome all the children back to school, hopefully in the near future.
