Deaf Unit
Maple Primary School's Deaf Unit is an auditory aural Unit which supports 10 deaf children across the school from Reception to Year 6. It is an integral part of the school and has been for a number of decades. We work with the wider school to support inclusion for our young deaf children. We provide specialist teaching, in class support and important therapies such as speech and language therapy. We maximise the auditory potential for our young deaf children, working closely with professionals such as paediatric audiologists and consultants. Our systems for supporting access to auditory information include soundfield systems in every classroom and use of Phonak Roger radio aids. The soundfield systems benefit all children at Maple including improved access, attention and reading and language scores.
